This weekend (June 4,2005) Team Old National
Bank opened our 2005 season in Rockford, IL.
Everyone was ready to get the season started so
that we could see the results of our training in
the off season.
The
event began with the seeding round for the relay
teams. Our first opponents were the City Red
Devils from Michigan City,IN. Everyone on the
team knew how important it was to post a good
time in the seeding round to insure a good spot
in the bracket. Because this was our first run
on the real course in almost 8 months we were
all worried about mistakes and penalties, but
when the heat started the nervousness went away
and all of the training took over. We completed
the event without any mistakes or penalties with
a time of 1:51.43 which is a 31 second
improvement from last years time of 2:22.43. Our
opponents finished in 2:20.50. This also meant
that we had qualified for World Challenge XIV
because our time was below 2:00.
After the seeding round was complete the
individual competition began. This meant that
the three team members (Dave Reddick, Mike Ward,
and Adam Brock) who were competing in these
events would have to run the entire course by
themselves and then return to finish the relay
events. Dave Reddick was the first to compete in
the individual event and finished with a time of
2:33.39 which was a 56 second improvement from
last year. WAY TO GO DAVE! Next up was Mike Ward
and Adam Brock in a head to head match. Mike
finished in 2:17.10 and Adam finished in
2:41.04.
After the individuals were over we prepared for
our next relay event. Our next opponent was
Topeka Fire Department whose time in the seeding
round was 1:47.03. We knew it was going to be an
interesting heat before it started because of
how close our times were. We finished with a
time of 1:44.36 and Topeka finished in 1:42.67.
Although we lost by 1.69 seconds we were still
excited to have qualified for worlds twice in
the same day.
We
are now getting ready for the Michigan City
Challenge on July 16th. Keep watching our
website for updates on the team as well as more
videos and pictures from our events and
training. Thank all of you for your support. |
